Eye Contact…
To go out with the setting sun on an empty beach is to truly embrace your solitude.
Jeanne Moreau
Arriving early before a work Christmas Party at the Watergate Bay Hotel, i took teh opportunity to escape no the beach for a bracing walk before the festivities began in earnest. It was a cold day in mid-December and there had been a big storm battering the coast for the previous few days. I remember it so well, because there was a wonderful feeling of freedom and isolation on the beach that day, but I was, at the same time, horrified to see the huge quantities of plastic that the storm had deposited all over this otherwise pristine beach.
Walking down towards Newquay in the far distance, I notice that there were Fulmars circling all around me and spent quite a long time trying to photograph them – I only had my phone with me. Then, suddenly, the clouds moved away and the sun illuminated the scene, which turned instantly to liquid gold. All i had to do was point my camera and press the button…!!
