While of holiday on the Isle of wight in 2010, I was lucky enough to run into this stunning creature and great number of other raptors at the The Isle of Wight Owl and Falconry Centre.
Surrounded by all that spectacular avifauna I was like a small boy again rushing around and trying to take it all in, but this bald eagle stopped me in my tracks. It fixed me with this stare and I was transfixed – then all I needed was a telephoto lens and a steady hand and I got the shot.
After this i spent a lot of time trying to photograph the red kites at the Centre, but I just couldn’t get them in focus – i was gutted later when I found that my only pin-sharp shot wasn’t a very good composition…
