Old Pulteney…
Oh! Who can be ever tired of Bath..?
Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey
Not everyone who visits Bath is immediately familiar with Pulteney Bridge (you have to look over the edge of Grand Parade or get right down by the river), but everyone who lives there knows it is one of Baths greatest features. It is just one of four bridges in the world with shops on..!! I had spent many hundreds of happy days walking along this stretch of the River Avon, but I knew that it really came alive at night and that was what i wanted to capture…
I got my first SLR camera in 2001, but it wasn’t until a few years later that I eventually got a tripod. For months in 2004 (my 9th year living in the stunning city of Bath), I had been planning a dusk photography session and one freezing November evening I got my chance to spend a few hours down by the Avon as the light left the sky and the floodlights came on. This shot was captured with Fuji Velvia film…wow, that takes me back to fortunes wasted on developing sad misfires resulting from poor technique…!!
A few days later, I repeated my crepuscular photographic tour of Bath, but this time focused on the Abbey and the Pump Rooms…the challenge with the Abbey is getting far enough back with a wide enough angle on the lens to fit it in….this was the result.
