Tranquil dawn…

Look deep into [the eyes] of nature, and then you will understand everything better.

Albert Einstein

In August 2010, I awoke at dawn on my first day after moving to live and work in the South West to find the most tranquil and beautiful mornings I have ever seen.

I was staying on a farm owned by one of my new colleagues that was nestled in the secretive valley of the River Penpont, a tributary of the River Tamar on the Cornish side of the border, and still bleary-eyed I stepped out of the ancient building to lean on a gate and gaze out in awe across the valley.

Very rarely does a photograph capture the atmosphere and the mood of a moment, but this one does… It is not the most interesting or technically excellent image, but it never fails to trigger a response in people who have been lucky enough (as I have) to stand and absorb a warm and mellow Westcountry morning in mid-summer.
